A game for all ages

Pétanque New Zealand (PNZ) is the national governing body for the sport of pétanque in New Zealand. Our purpose is to promote and foster pétanque in the widest possible context within New Zealand.

PNZ has 35 affiliated clubs spread from Orewa in the north to Invercargill in the south. (Club map). We are keen to encourage more clubs to affiliate to PNZ as the benefits of doing so are substantial. Since PNZ was formed in 1993, thousands of people have been introduced to the game and many regularly play pétanque throughout New Zealand.

If you enjoy good company and friendly competition you will enjoy playing pétanque. It is a simple game to learn, costs very little and can be played almost anywhere outdoors by young and old. We are here to help you to enjoy our sport at whatever level you wish to play – whether you just want to play socially at a club or want to play at the very highest level and compete internationally. We have opportunities for everyone.

2026 Trans Tasman Open

The NZ Open team to play Australia in the 2026 Trans Tasman at the Mount Martha Bowls and Petanque club (21-22 March) is:

2026 Trans Tasman Senior

The NZ Senior team to play Australia in the 2026 Trans Tasman at the Mount Martha Bowls and Petanque club (21-22 March) is:
